Rosemary Cakebread, Consulting Winemaker

Rosemary Cakebread has been making the wines for Spottswoode since the 1997 vintage, and starting with the 2006 vintage she has assumed the role of Consulting Winemaker. A graduate of UC Davis in 1979, Rosemary brings over twenty-five years of experience in the production of wines. Embracing the philosophy that vineyards are the essence in the creation of distinctive wine, she dedicates equal time to vineyard and winery to oversee Spottswoode’s vintages. When not making wine, Rosemary can be found enjoying her two children (usually driving them), hiking, running, or pursuing her other creative outlet, photography.


“I was initially drawn to Spottswoode because of their commitment to organic farming, which was a pretty novel idea 10 years ago. Of course it was also an opportunity to make wines from one of the blue chip properties in the valley. Now, looking back, I feel fortunate to be here doing what I love, working with and meeting such special people—so many of my professional relationships have transcended into personal ones.”
