2005 Spottswoode Sauvignon BlancThe Wine Advocate, Robert Parker
The utterly profound 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc) will benefit from several years of bottle age, and should keep for 25–30 years. This extraordinary effort exhibits notes of blueberries, cassis, spring flowers, licorice, and forest floor. Beautifully pure and full-bodied with excellent overall harmony as well as superb purity, it reveals a Château Margaux-like personality. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2030. 96 points (December, 2008)
The San Francisco Chronicle Magazine, Top 100 Wines 2008, Jon Bonné
Little could be better than the ageless Spottswoode in a fine vintage like 2005. A flawless, powerful wine guided by the talents of Rosemary Cakebread with help from Spottswoode’s current winemaker, Jennifer Williams. Filled with scents of graphite and toast, with deep plum and cassis, and that mix of beefy flavors, resilient structure and energy that often defines this jewel of a St. Helena estate.
