Harvest 2006
It’s been a long one and a good one! Harvest 2006 was steady, beginning with our Estate Sauvignon Blanc on Labor Day and ending mid-October with Cabernet Sauvignon. Thanks to beautiful weather and a willing and able crew led by Jose Luis Lopez, our harvest was also calm. It is a time when we pay tribute to the grape—a sort of fruit worship, when our thoughts, actions, and energies are focused on its optimum ripeness, fermentation, and maceration. What do the grapes need, and how will we give it to them? This year, the demands were easily met, and the resulting young wines are exhibiting the graceful nature with which they entered the winery.
In addition to our dedicated crew, this harvest was all the more successful due to the hard work of our new Assistant Winemaker, Aron Weinkauf, and our congenial Catalan intern, Txema Vernet Barcelô. Together we coaxed grapes into wine and had a great time along the way!
